Recently, the fine folks at Rifftrax unveiled a somewhat new, special project for those fans who hunger for some variety in their Rifftrax diet. Titled “Rifftrax Presents,” the project gives us a glimpse into an alternate reality where Michael J. Nelson does not exist. Or perhaps he did and Kevin and/or Bill simply killed him in a power bid.
Either way, Rifftrax Presents spices up the riffer selection, as well as the movie selection. For example, look at the first two releases, both featuring the talents of Bill and Kevin. First up is an episode of the recent fan-made Star Trek series, New Voyages, featuring none other than George Takei. Titled “World Enough and Time,” it will be joined by another installment in the near future.
Then, Bill and Kevin take on Saw. Yes, that movie. Presumably, the film is a little bit graphic and disturbing for Mike’s riffing tastes (as well as mine), but Mr. Corbett and Mr. Murphy are just sick enough to take it on. The “Presents” series will also feature some Rifftrax without any of our three riffers, the first of which has English writer/performer Matthew Elliott taking on the unrated, widescreen cut of Dark Water.
Maybe a risky venture, at least so far as shaking it up with new riffers is concerned, but I think some variety will be good.
