MiSTy Moments: The Pizza N Pasta Commercial

As most of you are aware, the cast and crew of MST3K weren’t always sipping champagne from golden chalices and resting their feet on the backs of Comedy Central underlings. No, there was a time when the Brains were just regular shmucks living in Minnesota (as if any other sort of person ever lived in Minnesota, ZING!) trying to make a living on some dumpy little local TV station. And sometimes, well, working for The Man at a little Midwestern TV station had its downsides.

Thus, at some point, Trace Beaulieu and Josh Weinstein did this short advertisement for Pizza N Pasta, a local, uh, pizza and pasta chain. And it’s worth noting that they did the ad in-character, as a mustacheless Dr. Forrester and an understated Dr. Erhardt. Of course, I don’t know the circumstances surrounding this commercial. For all I know, they could’ve been friends with the local Pizza N Pastafarians and did this as a favor. Either way, we’re left with this little gem from simpler times.

And remember: Yummy noise. Yes… yummy noise.

[Thanks, Sam]

  1. nice, this is my all time favorite old school clip from youtube:

  2. Ah, if there were only a TV channel around these days in which MST3K characters showed up to do random promos during commercial breaks. Might mean I’d actually watch commercials again.

  3. Was this on the Scrapbook tape as well? I know I’ve seen it, but I can’t remember where.

  4. Alas, I have not seen the Scrapbook tape, I don’t think. It certainly could’ve been on there.

  5. Nay. It is not on the Scrapbook. You can only get it by buying it from MSTtraders.

  6. Or by downloading it from the Digital Archive Project’s MST3K torrent for the KTMA episode “Phase IV”, AKA K09.

At 01:02:20, there’s an ad for a discount travel agency (I think the guy in the travel ad is a then beardless Kevin Murphy, which is the only reason I can think of that they left it in).

There’s also an ad for Joel Hodgson’s comedy show at the Comedy Gallery in Riverplace.

The Pizza N Pasta ad (they’re still in business by the way) is at 01:13:22 (wow, they really crammed them in, didn’t they?).
