Deep Ape is not officially connected to Best Brains, Rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic, or Shout Factory and is 100% independent. The views expressed here are dumb, probably wrong, and they in no way represent the views of the aforementioned. Amen.

Rifftrax Live Happened, By The Way

If you recall, Mike, Bill, and Kevin recently did another live Rifftrax performance. I haven’t really read too many accounts of the event, but I feel the need to post something about it. So, enjoy the above picture, which I found on SFist. The guys are looking good and healthy… whatever that means. Kevin Murphy also blogged about the event, where they riffed Plan 9 From Outer Space. He seems pretty happy with it.

Of course, I’d like to give you my own personal review of the event but, well, I live on the east coast. Hear that, Rifftrax. The east coast. The coast in the east? Remember that? It exists, you know.

  1. Want an east coast performance? Make it happen! Deep Ape presents RiffTrax Live!

Seriously, Mrtorso summed up what a live performance requires pretty well here. If you know anyone with the wherewithal to make it happen, start bugging them:

(please see the post directly below it also. The live show was awesome. We sold out the 1400 seat Castro Theater!)

  2. Thanks for pointing that out, Conor. It’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind, though it’s probably not feasible for me at the moment. If I can, I will.

    And thanks for visiting. :)

  3. I went to the performance at The Castro theater on 01/17 and it was almost sold out (150 seats were available for purchase at the box office, of 1400 seats in the Castro theater). It was VERY well done and very well received by the audience. These three have riffing down to a beautiful art when they perform live. We saw them last year as well doing Over The Top here in SF and they were equally amazing. This year was tremendous fun since it was Plan 9 and since it was in a classic theater. Plan 9 may seem ridiculously easy to riff, but that makes it all the more challenging and they met the challenge VERY well with great care taken to not take too many cheap shots and to really ramp up the fun intellectual portion of riffing that they can be so good at. I probably had a little more fun at Over The Top because the movie is (to me) even worse than Plan 9. But Plan 9 and Rifftrax are great together. The guys seemed like they were having a ball and the crowd enjoyed it immensely.
