Deep Ape is not officially connected to Best Brains, Rifftrax, The Film Crew, or Cinematic Titanic and is 100% independent. The views expressed here are obnoxious, probably wrong, and they in no way represent the views of the aforementioned. Amen.

So, Comic-Con happened — and I got to go!

Well, Comic-Con 2009 is officially over, and what a great time it was! There’s something very special about seeing so many geeks in one place, and this year was no exception. The convention hall was filled to the brim with various nerd treasures, from comic books to elaborate figurines, and even Star Trek perfume!

But of course, the real draw for me  (and Deep Ape!) were the various Rifftrax events that were going on over the weekend. Click past the break to read about it!

Rifftrax Live! For free! Everywhere!

rifftraxlive-interwebs

Are you as fed-up as I am about living in a part of the country devoid of Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic live shows? Well, now we can complain slightly less, as Mike, Bill, and Kevin will be performing a live riffing of the short Self Conscious Guy via the interwebs, 100% free-of-charge!

The performance is tonight (Thursday, January 15th, for the inattentive) at 9pm EST, and will be broadcast here. There will also be a Q&A session with the guys afterward, utilizing the Ustream chat interface here. So, uh, be there. Or don’t. But you should.

Film Crew-featuring short wins top prize at Dragon*Con

What's up with Mike's face here? Didn't he used to be white?

Remember that animated short entitled Max the Hero, featuring Mike, Bill, and Kevin’s vocal talents? Well, apparently it won the award for “Best Animated Comedy” at Dragon*Con, a couple of weeks ago. The man behind it, Mike Salva, even had the award presented to him by Brad Dourif. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. Congrats, guys.

My apologies to Mike for not posting this sooner.

New Rifftrax Short: The Horrors of “One Got Fat”

Ever hear of One Got Fat? It’s a 1963 educational short about bicycle safety. It’s horrifying. See that picture above? Yeah, that’s it. I keep expecting Nicholas Cage to run into that scene and start punching those monkey-masked children.

Anyway, if you can stomach it (and you really shouldn’t be able to, unless you’re evil), you can listen to Mike, Kevin, and Bill try to stomach it, as it’s the latest Rifftrax On Demand short. It’s just under a buck, and sans DRM. You know the drill.
